From the position of the bed to smart storage, discover the advice of Cotemaison.fr to arrange a room where it is good to live and sleep well.

Draw a circulation axis around the bed

Despite an imposing bed due to the space it takes up, it is necessary to be able to move around at will in the room as you wish . Free up floor space and avoid unnecessary clutter. The bed should be placed in the center of the room, with its head against a wall. In a corner, traffic is difficult. “It’s almost obligatory to each have access to the bed to avoid disturbing the other when you get up in the morning”, insists Camille Hermand, interior designer.

Also keep in mind all the gestures repeated on a daily basis in order to position the bed in the best possible way. The path to reach the closet or the light should not be obstructed. “Better to have a small room with good circulation than a large, poorly arranged room,” recalls Camille Hermand.

Cunning with storage

Clothes, books or bed linen often impose themselves in the bedroom. “Opening the cupboards on the bed is not very practical, especially if everyone’s schedules are not the same”, underlines Camille Hermand. Ideally, create a storage space (dressing room, library, etc.) separate from the sleeping area to create a more intimate bedroom. Everything that is rarely used on a daily basis is to be placed in additional storage: chest, top of cupboard, drawer under the bed… in order to optimize floor space.

As a bedside table, succumb to the headboard . Built-in lighting, small niches, photo shelf, the headboard also allows you to personalize the bedroom.

Diversify sources of electric light

As in the rest of the house, the electric lighting in the bedroom must keep pace with the inhabitants. Having at least two light sources of different intensities allows you to modulate the lighting as you wish. When entering the bedroom or getting dressed, for example, prefer a general light source such as spotlights on the ceiling or a floor lamp. At bedtime or while reading, a reading light or a table lamp are welcome.

Avoid ceiling lights or chandeliers that give the bad impression of having something ready to fall on us. Ideally, on each side of the bed.”

Orient the bedroom according to the view

A large opening to the outside can be a starting point for furnishing the bedroom. A bit of greenery or a bit of sky, an open window also bathes the room in natural light. Attention, beware of the opposite, quite common in cities. The bedroom being one of the most intimate rooms, it needs to be protected from prying eyes. A veil, an adhesive film or blinds create a preserved place.

With or without vis-à-vis, dressing the windows with curtains softens the room and gives it a cozy feel. If you are prone to morning awakenings due to natural light, opt for a blackout fabric to immerse the room in darkness.

Play with colors without getting bored

The dominant color of the bedroom depends on the way in which the room is occupied, on the rhythm of each person. With little free time and a bedroom where you go to sleep, dark colors are another alternative.”

Most often, soft tones find their place in the bedroom. “If you want a little color in the bedroom, focus on a single wall: the one with your back to the bed, advises Camille Hermand. It creates a decorative side, without challenging us when lying down.”

The color can also be found in accessories or bed linen with a varied choice. Prefer plain fabrics by focusing on simplicity. We like the vitamin tones in summer, the more cocoon tones in winter.
